DETAILS

The Next Leadership Edge: it isn’t skills. It’s capacity.

Tuesday 14th July | 9:30 – 12:00 (BST)

The uncomfortable truth

The mindset of the leaders who built your business won’t be the ones who carry it through what comes next. Not because they aren’t good. Because the game has changed.

For thirty years, we’ve promoted, paid and developed leaders on the basis of expertise. Know the function. Know the market. Know more than anyone else in the room. That was the deal.

That deal is broken.

AI is collapsing the half-life of expertise. Markets are pivoting faster than strategy cycles can keep up with. Transformation and change isn’t a project anymore, it’s the operating condition. And the leaders being asked to navigate all of it are running on a model built for a different era.

The shocking part isn’t that they’re struggling. It’s that we aren’t trying to fix it.

Why we’re convening this room

Briefs landing on our desk say the same thing in different words.

We need leaders who can hold ambiguity. Who can lead through complexity. Who can join the dots, move at pace, and stay steady when the ground shifts. And then, in the next breath, the same brief asks for a skills programme.

This is the gap we want to talk about. Not the skills gap. The capacity gap.

Because the leaders your business needs won’t be built by filling their cup with more. They’ll be built by growing the cup itself.

That’s a different conversation. It’s the one we want to have with you.

What we’ll explore together

  • The difference between filling the cup and growing it, and why most leadership budgets, point at the wrong one.
  • How to spot the leaders in your business who already have the capacity to transform, and how to develop the ones who don’t yet.
  • What a recruitment strategy looks like when expertise is no longer the headline qualification.
  • Where AI fits in all of this. And honestly, where it doesn’t.
  • The harder question of where to put your energy, your attention and your budget over the next one to three years.

Who’s in the room

Senior people leaders shaping the agenda inside their organisations. Heads of L&D, HR Directors, Heads of Talent, Change and Transformation leads, and the executive-level voices these functions report into.

Organisations with 1,000+ employees. UK-based with global exposure. No more than 20 people in the room, deliberately.

This is peer-led. You’re not here to be presented at. You’re here to think out loud with people facing the same questions you are.

What you’ll leave with

  • A free leadership maturity assessment to run inside your own organisation.
  • Four sharp questions to take back to your executive team that will reframe the conversation about what leadership development is actually for.
  • A small group of peers who are wrestling with the same thing, and a reason to stay in touch with them.

The format

Ahead of the session, you’ll share the one or two challenges currently keeping you up at night. Those inputs shape the agenda.

On the day, expect deconstructed peer conversations with senior people leaders who are already rethinking how they develop their teams. Facilitated group coaching. And the kind of honest exchange that doesn’t happen in public forums.

No case studies. No performance narratives. No slides selling you something.

Why this matters

This is a working session.

We think the organisations that get this right over the next three years will pull ahead. The ones that don’t will keep paying for leadership development that polishes the wrong thing.

If that resonates, we’d like you in the room.
