Resilience is more than a buzzword!

DETAILS

Resilience is more than a buzzword! It’s a vital part of the toolkit we use to navigate the twists and turns of life with grace and equanimity.

It’s more than coping, better than avoiding challenges in the first place and more effective than just ‘getting over it’ when things go wrong. Resilience is our capacity to recover from adversity, disappointment or setbacks, with humility, compassion and maybe even humour.

As leaders, our resilience has a significant impact on those we lead; the more we build our own resilience and model resilience for others, the more powerful our teams and organisations become.

The good news is that science tells us resilience CAN be built; it’s not an innate trait or a resource that can be used up. We CAN:

> learn ways of responding to potential stressors, whether specific, ambient, internal or external

> build a balanced response between action and relaxation

> guide our thinking with questions which help reframe the situation
